Patchwork Landscapes

Fee: £190.00 (4 days)

Thursday 14th - Sunday 17th October
10.00am - 4.00pm
If you have ever wanted to translate a favourite landscape, real or imagined, into patchwork this class will suggest different ways of tackling the design. After looking at several approaches – including, crazy patchwork, strips, using a full-size cartoon and adapting blocks – each student will work individually by whatever method they choose and which best suits their aims and circumstances. Patchwork is not painting, it has different strengths and weaknesses and the class will emphasise having a flexible attitude in order to adapt the literal view of the landscape to the medium, using imagination as well as observation.
The class will include work on colour, particularly dark and light contrast, and fabric choice to emphasise dramatic contrast or create large harmonious areas, rich in understated detail. It is unlikely that any sewing will be done in the class but techniques can be discussed and tried if necessary. As plans progress, quilting patterns to further enhance the design and colour choices, will be considered.
