Birds are everywhere in textile art at the moment – we will make a small bird outline using a mixture of contemporary and vintage images as source material. This will then be transferred onto fabric and used for the basis of a new piece of work. Anne will show you how to use collage to create a varied and textural interpretation of your favourite bird, using a mixture of hand and machine stitch if desired. You will leave the workshop. It can then be incorporated into a larger piece and embellished further by hand and machine.
Backing fabric (strong cotton, canvas or linen) netural or embroidered – no larger than A4
Strips of colourful, fabric and or ribbon or trim for birds
A variety of fabric scraps for leaves or background
Pictures of birds (cut from fabric or drawings to make one) if desired
Tacking thread (neutral colour)
Embroidery cotton for machine and handstitching
