Christmas Cards, Brooches or Decorations

A Christmas card workshop with a difference, make a collection of charming appliqué Christmas brooches or decorations mounting them on a card for a truly unique gift.

Hang the decorations around the house or on the Christmas tree, personalise them and use as gift tags on your presents. Or make them into brooches for those hard to buy for friends and family. A very versatile workshop! We mount them on plain white cards to present them nicely.

Requirements:

Sewing machine: please bring with darning foot/open toe embroidery foot for free machine sewing & your machine’s manual.

Basic sewing kit: embroidery scissors, needles, pencil, pins, paper scissors

Machine threads: a selection of dark blue, purple, brown, green, red, grey, neutral, and a selection of bobbin threads to match your backing fabrics.

Fusible Webbing – such as Bondaweb ½-1meter

Fabric: For the decorations:

1 Appliqués - selection of Christmas fabric/plain fabrics to create your designs

2 Base fabric - lightweight calico or similar

3 Wadding - 100% cotton batting or old blanket

4 Backing fabric - coloured felt, coloured flannelette, old jumper or blanket or jazzy Christmas fabric. 

For the Brooches:

5 Swap out batting for interfacing -  Stiff pelmet Vilene (heavy weight).  

Embellishments: use buttons, sequins, beads, little bells and sparkly threads to add interest to each decoration as desired.

Bring a selection of ribbons.

Optional extras:

Blank cards to mount your decorations on, square 5”x5” or rectangular 4”x6” either is fine. You can make your own out of white card but I buy mine pre folded which is easier.

Alphabet stamp set: small inexpensive sets can be bought in The Range or Hobby Craft or online. Use with red, gold or navy blue ink pads to stamp your Christmas greeting on the card.

Washi tape, decorative tape from Japan that is taking the craft world by storm, use this fabulous tape to attach the little wire hangings onto the front of your cards. 

A pattern containing 12 designs comes with the workshop but more designs can be bought from tutor on the day.

PLEASE if you are unwell and/or presenting with Covid symptoms or coming from a household where

anyone has symptoms or a positive test you must not come to your class. You will not be penalised

and we will keep a credit for you to use another time.

All students will have their temperature taken before entry to the classroom and need to sign a form.

Sanitisers are to be used on entry to classroom, shop and café and are available on all tables.

Students are to bring their own cup.

You must bring all your own equipment as there will be no sharing of anything to avoid cross contamination.

QR code can be scanned on site for those with the NHS Track & Trace app.

Face masks or coverings must be worn at all times in the classroom. We do have face shields for £2.50.
