Decorative Papers and All the Fun of the Fold
A two part workshop.
Spend the day creating your own decorative papers. We will experiment with a range of techniques including mono printing, marbling, paste papers, stamping, and a variety of the weird and wonderful. By the end of the day you will have a collection of papers totally unique to you to use in your work. A messy fun day!
There will be paper and art materials available but please feel free to bring anything with you to try out if you have them, for example, vintage papers, Indian block stamps etc.
Day Two, All the Fun of the Fold Creative Bookbinding
Using some of your papers that you decorated we will spend the day celebrating the ‘concertina’ structure and the genius that is Heidi Kyle. We will make two or three small books and finish with the amazing Flag Book. You will learn about paper grain, adhesives, choices of covers, paper folding and lots of fun elements.
There will be Bookbinding equipment for you to use but if you have or would like to get some basics please bring
Scissors for paper
Metal ruler (not plastic)
There will be a total materials charge of 15.00 per student payable to Janine on the day.
Janine Pope spent 6 years learning Bookbinding under the tuition of the extraordinary Maureen Duke. Not opting for the Restoration of books she focussed on making and selling her own books and teaching. She spent 4 years teaching Creative Book Structures and Paper to Textile Students, Graphic Design Students at Nottingham Trent University and Surface Design Students at Northampton University.
In 2010 she won the Society of Bookbinders International Bookbinding Competition, Best Overall Book by an Amateur Binder.
She is still obsessed and mesmerised by the joy of folding paper and making books.
