£140.00

2 Day Workshop

Thu, 19th July, 2018 to Tue, 24th July, 2018

10:00am - 4:00pm

Jessie Will be returning to Cowslip Farm in July 2018 with x 2 two day embroidery and appliqué workshops. Join her on these workshops to create your own hand stitched illustrations and books, inspired by Jessie's unique style. Jessie will show you how she uses her needle and threads as her drawing tools to both illustrate with and also to incorporate and secure found items of interest. As well as a maker and stitcher collecting items to incorporate in to her work, is a large part of Jessie’s practice as is simple block printing from her lino cut designs

“The main focus of these workshops is to make a piece inspired by my work, So a very free style piece that celebrates my love of both embroidery and appliqué. My own pieces are usually framed once finished so I will talk you through this. If you would like to make a larger piece I will help you to finish and back such pieces so they can be hung directly in your own home. I will also demonstrate the option to make a concertina style fabric story book, still using the same techniques above… so yes this workshop is very free open and covers many favourite techniques of mine”
You will be working on cotton and linen as your base or background provided by Jessie and using a mixture of Jessie’s own hand printed lino cut illustrations. The lino prints will be pre-printed for you and included in the hand wrapped pack that you will be provided with when Jessie first meets you. This kit will also include a mixture of vintage fabrics plus a piece of Jessie’s hand screen-printed and illustrated fabric.

Hand stitching and Jessie’s unique style of appliqué will be the main focus of these workshops. Jessie will be bringing here own collection of embroidery threads that you will be using to stitch with. She will be showing you and helping you to do embroidered text, using couching stitch and backstitch. She will demonstrate filling in larger areas using her signature fine running stitch. And a lot of attention will go in to filling and working her printed lino cut designs using fine couching stitches and overcast stitches
