Embroidered Strip Cloth Sampler

Stitch a hand embroidered sampler on West African Strip Cloth to preserve and display your treasured mementoes or to record a special event, and celebrate the memory of a special person or memory. The perfect way to use all those treasured items you have collected to create an heirloom of your own. We will use fragments of vintage fabrics, silks, ribbons, pieces of lace and hand embroidery including pulled work.

We will discuss ways of displaying your sampler.

Please bring the following:

Basic Sewing kit to include: Fabric Scissors, small embroidery scissors, pins, needles etc,

A variety of small fragments of recycled or vintage fabrics, – silks, viscose satins, wool, cottons, velvets etc.  Fragments of vintage linen or cotton embroidered tablecloths or tray cloths

A variety of threads (cottons, silks, viscose), from machine cotton, perle, cotton a broder, stranded – in white or cream and some of your favourite colours

Embellishments – beads, buttons, treasured mementoes like badges, brooches, photos, tickets, shells etc

Pencil & Note book

You may wish to bring a sewing machine to stitch the fabric fragments to the strip cloth before adding hand embroidery.

An item from which to hang your sampler for example: driftwood, a yarn spool, wooden knitting needle etc

I will bring the following:

1m of West African strip Cloth cost £3.25, payable to me on the day

I will have fragments of vintage / recycled fabrics, silks, satin viscose, lace, ribbons, buttons & beads to buy if needed.
