10:00am - 4:00pm

Five different variations of Flying Geese are shown and at least two used as part of a lap quilt project begun during the day. As well as two methods of creating the classic Flying Geese to make an unusual block design, there are two off-set versions which make great borders plus an origami -style folded version that is particularly useful for small-scale projects. Each variation will be demonstrated during the class, and worksheets provided. Requirements list During the day you may choose to make one 12’ block from the Flying Geese quilt plus strips of the offset variations as samples. For these bring 3 fabrics for the triangular geese, at least a fat quarter of each, plus a 1/2 metre of background fabric. If you plan to make the quilt (which finishes up about 48” square) you need the following: 1/2 metre each of three fabrics for the triangular geese 1/2 metre each of two background fabrics Nb: as the quilt progresses you might need more for the final off-set geese border, but you have to see which fabrics look best for this when you reach that stage. There is also a tasty cushion sized design that offers two types of curvy Flying Geese. One fabric is used for the geese that float on a background fabric around the centre square. These two fabrics are reversed in the centre square of the design. Fabric: A fat quarter of goose fabric is needed and 1/2 metre of background fabric to make the design. A third fabric is used for both the narrow inner frame and the final wider frame - a fat quarter is plenty. The usual sewing and rotary cutting equipment, including your sewing machine. Hand-sewing equipment and matching thread for the curved back edges if desired (you may prefer to stitch these by machine).
