Hand Embroidery - A Stitched Sampler

£70.00

1 Day

Sat, 11th November, 2017

10:00am - 4:00pm

In this workshop we will work throughout the day on a printed stitch sampler I have designed to take us through a number of stitches. Having practised each in turn, we will embroider little motifs showing the different ways in which those stitches can be used. The idea is that this sampler will be like an artist’s palette, something you return to to practise stitching, try a bit of slow stitching, using colours and threads you choose and gradually building up a lovely piece of work. Antique stitch samplers are some of the most intriguing and beautiful textile treasures, so this is your chance to create one, while learning/refreshing your embroidery skills. We will also do a little experimenting with paint on fabric. This is the perfect workshop as preparation to some of my other workshops.

Student Requirements

Those of you familiar with Caroline’s workshops will know that she brings with her a generous selection of precious vintage textiles to use in the workshops, and makes her collection of vintage and new threads for both machine and hand stitching available to all at a cost of £10 payable to Caroline on the day. You may of course bring and use your own materials if you prefer.

A few embroidery needles - I find the pink John James pebbles Jo sells are perfect.

A 6 or 7” embroidery hoop

A pincushion - we change threads frequently

A pair of small, sharp embroidery scissors

A notebook and pencil

A friction pen

All threads will be provided, and if you do not own any of the above, don’t worry as I have a few spares and you can buy needles in the shop.
