Jo's Beginners introduction to Patchwork and Quilting
This class is for beginners and those who need a refresher or want to carry on from one of our beginners groups! With step-by-step traditional techniques including rotary cutting & making templates, the aim is simplicity – getting to the quilting stage within 6 weeks. Basic quilt history all stages of making a quilt will be explained and illustrated fully. Hopefully by the end of the class students will be bitten by the bug and ready for more! Possibly start either the flower bed quilt or a simple star
STUDENT REQUIREMENTS
Washed fabrics - COTTON, mixed selection of plain and patterns, with a good variety of colours to suit students, can be re-cycled as long as still strong. Bring any favourite pieces of fabric and once you have decided what you might like to do it will be easier to choose the fabrics
1 metre minimum of washed calico or plain fabric for mixing
Basic sewing kit - to include threads, paper & fabric scissors.
Sewing machine (optional) but speeds up the process
Pens, pencils, notebook, template material (plastic or card) - cereal boxes are excellent
Ruler Pritt-stick, colouring pencils - if available
Cutting mat if available, 2 sheets of fine sandpaper - the sandpaper can be stuck to strong board, to be used for drawing on, Books and pictures - for inspiration
Please note that it is not essential to have all of the above – just bring what you have and then you can either borrow, buy or share once you are here!
