2 Day Workshop

Sun, 17th September, 2017

Sunday 17th September & Sunday 1st October

10:00am - 4:00pm

Our tuffet workshops are fun and at the end of the two days you will be going home with a completed tuffet. The class fee includes the pattern and interfacing and you use your own fabric which can be a jelly roll or you can cut your own strips from fat quarters. There is a little pre-class work for you to do but we promise it is not much.

Your first day is spent learning the technique of piecing your tuffet top and getting as far as you can. You may not complete it on the day but you then have two weeks to complete it at home ready for the second day.

Our second day (SUNDAY 1st OCTOBER) is spent making our tuffet. We supply the big staple guns and hammers and everyone manages to finish their tuffet – WOW!! You can provide your own hardware for the tuffet – base, foam, wadding, button and cord plus feet or you can order a Tuffet Kit and a selection of feet from me on the first day.

CLASS REQUIREMENTS

Fabrics: Jelly Roll + fat quarter for base and button OR Eight fat quarters for the tuffet top + fat quarter for base and button

FIRST DAY

  • Sewing machine
  • Rotary cutter with sharp blade and mat
  • 12in Add-a-Quarter ruler or a small quilting ruler (approx. 3½in x 12in)
  • Glass headed straight pins or heat resistant flower head pins
  • Neutral piecing thread for machine
  • Seam ripper
  • Scissors
  • 1m 60in wide calico or similar for fusing to the interfacing
  • Tuffet pattern will be supplied on the day

SECOND DAY

  • Glass headed straight pins or heat resistant flower head pins
  • Large scissors for wadding and small sharp pointed scissors
  • Hand needle with large eye
  • Regular hand needle with thread to match your tuffet base fabric.
  • Tuffet Kit (this can be ordered from us on the first day or you can provide your own). Our Tuffet Kit with bun feet is £80 (this includes a 10% discount for students).

PRE-CLASS PREPARATION

If you are using eight fat quarters please cut each fat quarter into eight 2in x 21in rectangles. Do not cut the fat quarter which is to be used for the base and button.

If you are using a jelly roll please cut each strip into two 2½in x 21in strips. You need sixty-four 2½in x 21in strips so you have some spare.

Arranging your layout can be time consuming so playing around with your layout before class is a good idea. There are eight strips in each segment and eight segments in your tuffet. Decide the order you wish your strips to be sewn and number the strips in each segment from left to right 1-8. Pin your eight Number 1 strips together, your eight Number 2 strips together, etc. and label them.

If you are using a jelly roll and going with the scrappy look, arranging isn’t necessary.
