Paint into Stitch

£70.00

1 Day

Tue, 14th November, 2017

10:00am - 4:00pm

Sometimes, painting a foundation for embroidery not only lends depth and colour to the finished piece, it also gives you a sense of the whole picture at the start, whether it is a single tree, a flower or a landscape. On this workshop, you will experiment with paint and stitch to create either a more intricate image of, say, a wildflower meadow or landscape, or a patterned piece. Basic hand embroidery skills are needed for this workshop. It is a perfect follow on workshop from my Stitch sampler day. If you think you cannot paint, you are wrong! It will be very exciting to find out just how much you can draw and paint and then translate it all into stitch.

Student Requirements

Those of you familiar with Caroline’s workshops will know that she brings with her a generous selection of precious vintage textiles to use in the workshops, and makes her collection of vintage and new threads for both machine and hand stitching available to all at a cost of £10 payable to Caroline on the day. You may of course bring and use your own materials if you prefer.

Other kit to bring includes:
A few embroidery needles - I find the pink John James pebbles Jo sells are perfect.

A 6 or 7” embroidery hoop

A pincushion - we change threads frequently

A pair of small, sharp embroidery scissors

A notebook and pencil

A friction pen

A sewing machine threaded with ivory or white top and bottom. You will not need any other bobbins.

Free embroidery foot

Make sure your electrical equipment (sewing machine) has been recently PAT tested.
