£55.00

1 Day

Fri, 5th May, 2017

10:00am - 4:00pm

Di has said students can continue with an ongoing project or another quilt but on her last visit Pendle Hill was still in the making.

In this class we will look at all the techniques to make this Central Medallion for one of my new quilts or it could be the centre that you design the rest of the quilt around !
I will show you how to get the best look from your fabrics ... lets make the fabrics do the work ! ...how to Broderie Perse using the needle-turn applique technique , also how to make paper pieced Pentagon Flowers with lots of Fussy Cutting. So it will be a fun but informative day!

STUDENT REQUIREMENTS
- 1 metre of fabric for Broderie Perse in centre medallion ....I used "Arabesque " from the Dutch Heritage range . If you would like to go on and finish the quilt when the end result will be revealed in my new book in 2017 you will need more fabric but I will talk about that in class.

- 1 metre of main background ( this is for the centre circle and the Pentagon border ). Choose maybe a stripe or a small check , something to give it some real interest but not overpower the Broderie Perse fabric . Choose a colour similar to the "Arabesque " background which is ecru.

- 65cm of a second background fabric to co-ordinate with the metre above also a similar colour to the background of "Arabesque"

- 1.10 metres of a stripe fabric for 1" finished borders

- Small pieces of 2 blues , 1 gold and a red print for the Urn . You may choose different colours ... this is just a guide.

- Selection of fabrics for Pentagons .... choose smallish prints ( each pentagon is 5/8"finished ) florals , geometrics, spots , stripes, checks ...more variety means more fun !

SEWING NOTIONS ...... Sharp scissors plus an old pair to cut the plastic, fine needles and pins , light plastic to make templates for the urn , cotton thread to blend with your fabrics ,a pen to mark your plastic when making templates ,pen ,pencil or fabric marker to mark the right side of your fabric , 5/8" Pentagon papers (THESE WILL BE PROVIDED ON THE DAY)
