Sea and Estuary Birds
In Cornwall you are never far from the seaside and in this workshop you can create a piece of work which reflects your memories of the changing colours of the sea and shore and place a favourite bird on your beach! You will initially create a background and then use Mandy’s textile collage and hand stitching techniques to work up a portrait of a favourite coastal or salt marsh bird such as a seagull, kittiwake, tern, sanderling, oyster catcher, heron. Bring a bird identification book with you and don’t worry if you can not draw as templates will be provided or can be constructed on the day.
Your own sewing kit - needles, lots of pins and scissors, water dissolvabe pen
A small range of fabric scraps in the colours of the bird you might have a go at. eg. seagulls and terns would be greys, black, white, beiges. Any sort of fabric is OK. Sea, sky and sand colours too.
Some stranded embroidery thread or perle for hand stitching - a good mix of neutrals incl greys and browns and a black and white.
Mandy will provide an A4 piece of foundation fabric for you to work on at a cost of £3.50 per student payable directly to her on the day.
