Gardens are not all about flowers as beauty often comes after the blooms have faded. As flowers and weeds go to seed they produce beautiful seed pods, skeletal forms and silhouettes. Celebrate this change in the garden with a workshop that refers to the work of print maker Angie Lewin and other artists who have used subtle colour palettes and line to create nature compositions. You will work on to an A4 old piece of quilt with a fairly loose appliqué, to give some body to your shapes, which will be embroidered with a series of stitches which reflect the forms of nature and concentrate on linear expression.
Your own sewing kit - needles, lots of pins and scissors, water dissolvable pen
A range of pale faded pastel pieces of fabric. Patchwork weight cotton is ideal, small scraps will do
Some stranded embroidery thread or perle for hand stitching - a good mix of neutrals including greys and browns
Mandy will provide an A4 piece of vintage quilt for you to work on as a foundation at a cost of £3.50 per student payable directly to her on the day.
