Still Life in Blue
Inspired by fabulous peonies, use interesting fabrics to make an attractive machine appliqué, adding quilting (by machine or hand or both ) to make this beautiful cheery wallhanging. An opportunity to use treasured scraps of precious fabrics, and to delve into your stash of hand quilting threads.
STUDENT REQUIREMENTS
Fabrics
- 3/4 metre of plain or almost plain background fabric. I chose cream
- 3/4 metre of backing fabric and wadding to match
- collection of fabrics in chosen palette - I used blues, but this works well for a single family of coloured fabrics (say blues or reds), or a variety of colours if you prefer. Include 2 or 3 fat quarters as well as smaller scraps.
- lightweight bondaweb and pencil
Equipment
- sewing machine, including foot for free machine quilting
- cutting board, ruler and cutter
- sewing notions, scissors, needles etc
- threads to match chosen fabrics and background,
- hand stitch threads for adding hand quilting
