Wobbly Log Cabin

1 Day Workshop

Tue, 9th June, 2020

10:00am - 4:00pm

Fast, fun and very few rules!

This technique can have as much “attitude” as you like.

Using Improv Piecing, this technique was designed and devised by me for my prize winning “Skye Escape” series of quilts. It’s a popular, adaptable technique and great for those who want to break free from precision piecing.

Use of colour, quilting, embellishing and finishing techniques will also be discussed. Machine piecing.

Students requirements

Rotary cutter

Cutting mat

Rotary Rule (I use Omnigrid 12” x 6” and 12½” square)

Sewing Machine, ¼” foot & don’t forget your foot pedal!

Sewing Kit – pins, small scissors, spare sewing machine needles and quick-un-pick etc.

Select a postcard, photo or magazine cutting as the colour inspiration for your project; choose your fabrics to reflect these colours.

Fabrics:

Strip Piecing:

10 – 12 (minimum) fat eighths/quarters of assorted small to medium size prints and or plains. Please include one piece that is a high contrast, your “zing” fabric!

You may like to include hand dyes and some batik’s too.

Alternate rounds fabric:

1 – 2 metres/yards (1 metre/yard is enough for a cushion or to begin a small wall hanging; 2 metres/yards will be needed if you intend to begin a larger project).

Choose a colour to complement you colour theme, hand dyes or a solid plain colour to set off the other fabrics.

Book:

You will be working from my book Liberating Log Cabin available at the special workshop price of £8.00 (usually £9.95).

If you already have a copy, please bring it with you. I will not be providing handouts
