Cat Rowe

Growing up and living in Cornwall has been a continuing source of inspiration for my art work. The wide open spaces of the sea's horizon and the Cornish countryside are reflected in my textile illustrations, collages, watercolours & sketchbooks.

Moved by landscapes and places I’m drawn to the memories and personal stories we attach to locations. I have tried to explore this relationship by highlighting the small moments of life that might often pass us by. Using text, scraps of fabric or paper to annotate and embellish work.

I have always loved writing in notebooks and since childhood have kept scrapbooks of favourite postcards and drawings. This has developed into my current practice of making and keeping sketchbooks & journals which provides a source of inspiration for my work.

I love teaching, whether it’s the joy of raw edge textile appliqué, or making or filling sketchbooks. I believe we all have the capacity to be creative and I love encouraging this in students, friends and family.
