Machine Drawn Appliquéd Characters

In this workshop you will learn some of the techniques Janine uses to draw and write onto fabric. She will show you how, and help you to draw and design your own panels which you can then use for quilts, bags, cushions or pictures. Her sewing style is very relaxed, easy and free and very quickly you will be able to achieve a lot. You can also experiment with some hand embellishing and embroidery and keep to a very neutral Scandinavian colour palette which she uses or create your own.
Student requirements
sewing machine, feed dogs down and embroidery foot (Please Make sure your sewing machine has been recently PAT tested).

inspirational images
pencil and paper
fabric scraps for appliqué
neutral fabrics to print on and use as a background, calico, cottons, vintage linens but close weave.
larger pieces of fabric
interfacing, not too heavy, iron on or not either will work

In this workshop you will be given a set of  drawings of Scandinavian style Christmas motifs including the little Nisse (pixies) for you to free machine appliqué onto your advent calendar.
There will be two styles of Advent Calendar to choose from, one will have 24 rings to stitch onto the calendar to  tie a small gift to open each day in December and the other will be long and narrow with 4 ties to attach a small gift to open on the 4 Sundays of Advent.

Sewing Machine, feed dogs down and please remember to bring the embroidery foot for free machine embroidery. Instruction manual.
Stitch and tear
Sewing kit.
Small pieces of fabrics for Appliqué in your favourite Christmas colours.
Aurifil 80 thread and size 60 machine needles (available from the shop)

Make sure your electrical equipment (sewing machine) has been recently PAT tested.
