Mixed Media Day

£70.00

1 Day

Mon, 13th November, 2017

10:00am - 4:00pm

Working with precious antique and vintage papers, you will make a collaged picture, into which we might add paint, machine stitching, a little hand stitching, stamps, or textile fragments. The idea is to have fund using mixed media, enjoying the textures and faded colours of the beautiful materials. Perhaps you might make a design for a Christmas card or a piece to celebrate a wedding or birth, or something purely decorative to keep. This can be a wonderful way of using very old family photographs, building a collage around them, perhaps incorporating letters or relevant fragments of fabric.

Student Requirements

Those of you familiar with Caroline’s workshops will know that she brings with her a generous selection of precious vintage textiles to use in the workshops, and makes her collection of vintage and new threads for both machine and hand stitching available to all at a cost of £10 payable to Caroline on the day. You may of course bring and use your own materials if you prefer.

Other kit to bring includes:

an apron (it’s messy)

good, sharp, paper scissors with pointy blades - not the sort you would give to a young child!

paper knife IF you are confident using one

notebook and pencil

any ephemera or fragments you might want to incorporate, but you do not need to bring these, and they may not work

sewing machine (stitching into the paper is fun, but if you do not own or prefer not to use a machine, you can work without or borrow Caroline’s) with ivory thread in the bobbin

Make sure your electrical equipment (sewing machine) has been recently PAT tested.
