A Shaker Box

In this two day class with artist, author and tutor Anne Kelly, you will design and make the embroidered and quilted cover for a shaker box - a cardboard version is suggested. Anne will show you how to create a special folk art themed and decorated box, being inspired by the countryside and local motifs.

She will use a range of techniques taken from her recent books, and you will enjoy making this unique box for yourself or for a gift.

Before you arrive, please have a think about folk art themed animals and motifs that you would like to use, and your colour scheme.

Please bring with you:

A cardboard shaker box, round or oval, available online or in gift shops

Calico for a base fabric to cover the box.

Scraps of fabric to make motifs for the lid and sides. 

Ribbons and trim for decoration

Hand and machine (optional) thread

Sewing kit

Sewing machine (optional)

Thin wadding or blanket cloth for the lid
