Winter on the Somerset levels in hand embroidery

This workshop is for both beginner and returning embroiderers. We will look at the flora and fauna of the Somerset Levels where I live, and embroider a wall hanging depicting Winter -think old man’s beard, mistletoe, pollarded willow, little egrets, swans, ducks, flooded rhynes etc.

In the morning I will introduce the stitches required and give plenty of time for practising. We will look at filling and decorative stitches as well as stitches suitable for writing and borders.   In the afternoon we will start to work on the embroidered pictures.

I will provide a kit with threads, sample fabric and an A4 hand painted background piece of material together with instructions on how to complete the wall hanging. The cost of the kit will be £10 payable on the day.

For anyone wishing to come to more than one of these workshops, whilst going over the basic stitches needed, I will show a variety of different stitches in each workshop and there will be time in the afternoon to explore more stitches if desired.

Student requirements 

A basic sewing kit. I like to use Chenille needles size 24 and 26 for embroidery. Also a Frixion pen or your preferred fabric marking pen. Notebook, pen, pencil and ruler.
