Alison Whateley

Devon based textile artist Alison Whateley is inspired by both coast and countryside. She creates contemporary seascapes, landscapes and botanical pieces, using a combination of new and upcycled fabrics and embellishments.

Using both free motion machine embroidery and hand stitching, her work is recognisable for its soft, watercolour like qualities which she achieves using layers of sheer fabrics such as organza and net. Recently, Alison has also been experimenting with a more abstract style, where she uses colour, texture and shape to evoke a sense of place.

Alison enjoys passing on her skills to others, and regularly runs workshops from her studio just outside Thorverton.
